The best way to support or get involved with HELSINKI LEFT is to become a member! Membership affords you the right to participate in internal democracy within the chapter, municipal and district parties, and Left Alliance as a whole, including the right to attend the chapter’s Autumn, Spring and any other General Meetings, and the right to run for election to the chapter’s board. You can be as active or as passive as you like. If you don’t have the time to get involved but would like to support our cause, being a passive member is still a helpful way of contributing that we appreciate.
How to join
To become a member of HELSINKI LEFT, you must be—or become—a member of Left Alliance. It’s only possible to be a member of one chapter.
New members of Left Alliance
If you are not yet a member of the party, join Left Alliance via this form and select HELSINKI LEFT as your chapter on the second page of the application form. The membership fee is progressive, i.e. based on your stated income.
Existing members of Left Alliance
If you’re already a member of Left Alliance, you can switch your chaptership to HELSINKI LEFT by emailing jasenasiat@vasemmistoliitto.fi. Here is an example message you can copy and paste: “Hei, please could you switch my chaptership to HELSINKI LEFT? Best regards, [YOUR NAME]”
Requirements
You don’t need to live in Helsinki to become a member of HELSINKI LEFT. The only requirements are that:
• You are aged 15+;
• You are a habitual resident of Finland (i.e. have an address in Finland (no need to have a residence permit);
• You agree with the chapter’s rules (unofficial English translation; official Finnish version) and the party’s rules, themes and values, and programme;
• You are not a member of another political party.
