European Elections 2024 FAQ

European Elections 2024 in Finland FAQ

Did you know the European Parliament is the only EU institution directly elected by YOU? This is your chance to influence the future. Finland will elect 15 Members of the European Parliament. The lawmakers you vote for will have a crucial role in shaping laws on everything from emissions targets to bank regulations.

But that’s not all – their first major task will be to approve or reject the 27 leaders who will guide the EU for the next five years. Your vote truly matters. Let’s make our voices heard and shape a better future together!

Here are answers to the most frequently asked questions.

Can I vote?

You are eligible to vote in Finland if you are at least 18 years old; a Finnish or an EU citizen with a legal residence in Finland, or a Finnish citizen residing abroad.

When?

EU elections will be held in Finland on June 9, 2024.  Early voting will take place in Finland from May 29 to June 4, 2024 and abroad from May 29 to June 1, 2024.

How can I vote?

In Finland, you can vote in advance at public polling stations in municipalities such as shopping centres and libraries.  On Election Day, each eligible voter may vote only at their own polling station. You can search for your polling station on this website

Abroad, you can vote in advance at embassies, and their offices are designated by government decree as early voting locations.  You can also vote by mail by ordering documents for voting in advance.

Where can I register to vote?

Finnish citizens do not have to register. On April 19, 2024, the Digital and Demographic Information Agency will prepare a register of eligible voters’ voting rights. Notification of electoral rights is sent by mail or electronically to the Suomi.fi service according to the voter’s own notification.

EU citizens living in Finland must register with the Electoral Rights Register using the Digital and Demographic Information Agency form before the election day no later than the 80th day (March 21, 2024). More information about voting in Finland by citizens of other EU countries you can find here.

Why should you vote for a Left Alliance candidate?

Election campaigns are going on all over Finland, and with your support, The Left Alliance aims for two seats in the European Parliament!

We currently have one MEP, but we are forecast to win a second seat this year. However, turnout in the elections is low, so it’s essential to vote. Election victory is achieved only together and every action counts.

Where can I find the list of The Left Alliance candidates?

Here you can find a short summary of the program and candidates list.
